Author of Al Simpson biography at CWC Nov. 29

January 1, 2011

The author of Shooting from the Lip, the Life of Senator Al Simpson is on the Central Wyoming College campus Tuesday, Nov. 29 to promote the authorized biography.

Don Loren Hardy, a press secretary and later Simpson’s chief of staff, is in the Wind River Room of the Intertribal Education and Community Center at 4 p.m. to talk about the Simpson biography.

Hardy was given full control to tell the story of Wyoming’s longtime U.S. senator. “This book is the true me,” said Simpson. “It is the only written account of my life that I have ever authorized –or ever will.”

Hardy drew extensively from Sen. Simpson’s journals that he kept daily after being elected Senate majority whip. A former radio and TV reporter who grew up in Cody near the Simpson family, Hardy reveals the roles Simpson played during such critical events as the Iran-Contra scandal and Clarence Thomas’s confirmation hearings.

In the book, Hardy divulges the senator’s candid views of seven American presidents and scores of other national and world luminaries, including his close compatriots President George H.W. Bush and Sen. Ted Kennedy.

Hardy is the guest of Wyoming PBS the night the station airs its popular documentary on Simpson. The CWC Library is hosting Hardy’s appearance on campus.
