Geosciences projects presented to GSA

January 1, 2011

Two geosciences projects at Central Wyoming College will be presented at the 2011Geological Society of America’s annual meeting and exposition.

A hydrogeologic research study in Red Canyon and earth science teaching methods have been selected to be presented at the GSA convention in Minneapolis, Minn., Oct. 9-12.

Professor Suki Smaglik and her students have been collaborating with Syracuse University at the University of Missouri Branson Field Lab in the Sinks Canyon on a year-long project to collect samples and analyze data in the field.

Beyond the experiential learning for students, the collaboration has allowed samples collected from other CWC projects to be chemically analyzed at the large university in New York.

Smaglik has also been invited to discuss her method of instilling confidence and competence of pre-service elementary teachers in the field of earth science.
