Nursing simulation focus of Colloquium

April 1, 2011

A Central Wyoming College nursing professor who has been researching the benefits of simulation labs in developing critical thinking skills in nursing students presents at a Wednesday, Oct. 12 colloquium.

This academic discussion is being held in the Nursing Simulation Lab, located in room 103 of the Pro-Tech Center at 3:30 p.m. and the public is invited to attend.

The CWC Nursing Program has been integrating hi-fidelity simulation into the nursing curriculum for the past several years, and instructor Paula Kihn has been researching the benefits, specifically whether or not the simulation increases critical thinking in undergraduate nursing students.

Kihn said there has been discussion in the education community as to whether or not this high tech and costly equipment is assisting students in developing or enhancing their critical thinking skills. Her presentation brings to light this debated topic and outlines the benefits nurse educators and researchers are witnessing among nursing schools that are utilizing the simulation.
