Poet, writer speaks at CWC Sept. 21

Award-winning Palestinian-American poet, writer, and educator Naomi Shihab Nye is at Central Wyoming College Wednesday, Sept. 21 for two events. She is touring the state conducting a series of community picnics and readings on topics of civility, tolerance and bridging cultures.
 
Nye, the daughter of a Palestinian father and American mother, has appeared on NPR's A Prairie Home Companion and several times with Bill Moyers on PBS poetry specials, conducts a reading at 1:30 p.m. in the Little Theatre. At 5:30 p.m., interested guests are invited to bring picnic dinners and gather at the Intertribal Education and Community Center Plaza for a fall evening with Nye, who describes herself as a "wandering poet."
 
While in Wyoming, she is presenting programs at selected schools. Sponsors include the Wyoming Humanities Council, the Wyoming Department of State Parks and Cultural Resources, the Teton County Library Foundation, Central Wyoming College, Natrona County Schools, the McMurry Foundation, and the Casper College Literary Conference.
