Professor answers questions on brain

January 1, 2011

Central Wyoming College Psychology Professor Jewel Dirks discusses research she is conducting on the brain during an Academic Colloquium scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 3:30 p.m. in room 171 of the Main Hall Classroom Wing.

Dirk also provides additional detail of her sabbatical research at a future colloquium scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 8.

In November, Dirks discusses “unanswered questions about the brain,” by exploring some of the “obvious questions that have only recently begun to be understood in neuroscience.”  For example, she will discuss why the left hemisphere controls the right side of the body and why toddlers understand so much more than they can speak.

“The brain is capable of functioning in unusual ways which can surprise and delight us,” she said.

In February, Dirks will discuss the “quirky brain” and the “bizarre things the brain is capable of doing.” The monthly academic discussions are free and open to the public.
