CWC debate team wins Utah tournament

January 1, 2012

A Central Wyoming College debate team won the junior varsity division of the University of Utah’s Great Salt Lake tournament on January 7.

The team of Nick Esposito and Amber Ezell won four of five preliminary rounds, making them the top seeded team entering the elimination debates. After winning their semifinal round against a team from the United States Air Force Academy, CWC faced Northern Arizona University, whom they beat on a 3-0 decision. Esposito was second overall as a speaker in the event and Ezell earned tenth place honors.

Ezell also won the junior division of Lincoln-Douglas debate, a one-on-one prepared policy debate format, by beating a top debater from the Concordia University-Urvine, a member of the second ranked NPDA team in the nation. Esposito advanced to quarterfinals in the open division of Lincoln-Douglas, but lost a close decision to a debater from the University of the Pacific.

Central Wyoming College’s debate program travels to Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne January 26-28 for the next event.
