CWC ensembles perform at Jazz Night Thursday, Nov. 8

January 1, 2012

An instrumental jazz ensemble, under the direction of new instructor Jason Ogg, is playing “Cold Duck Time,” by Eddie Harris; “Lazy River,” by Hoagy Carmichael and Sidney Arondin; “Maple Leaf Rag” by Scott Joplin; and “Norwegian Wood” by John Lennon and Paul McCartney.

Ogg is also the leader of the big band, which is playing “A String of Pearls,” by Eddie DeLange and Jerry Gray; “My Ship,” by Ira Gershwin and Kurt Weill; “Harlem Nocturne,” by Earle Hagen; “Splanky,” written by Neal Hefti for the Count Basie Orchestra; and “Billie’s Bounce” by Charlie Parker.

Lange, who began his love of music while playing bass in the Riverton High School jazz band, has a bachelor’s degree in music. He later earned his master’s in public administration when he found a passion for working in art administration.

The vocal jazz ensemble, JAZZMAGIC, under the direction of Robert Hussa, also performs at the concert. It is free and the public is welcome to attend.
