Former local musician is new CWC band director

A 2000 graduate of Riverton High School is coming home to take over Central Wyoming College’s instrumental music program.

Jason Ogg, who is currently on the faculty at Georgia Gwinnett College while pursuing a doctorate in saxophone performance at the University of Georgia, wants to grow participation in the CWC Community Band as well as college ensembles. Ogg is replacing Andy Peeks, who took a job in Georgia to be closer to family.

Ogg has already shown his desire to involve himself in the community and in the local public school music programs by introducing himself to RHS students during a summer band camp.
His goal is to encourage music hobbyists in the county to share their talents in the community band, which rehearses weekly on Thursday evenings. Last year the band had 40 musicians and Ogg would like to have 60-70 members this year.

“One of my biggest ambitions is to start a regular pep band to perform at CWC athletic events,” he said. “I want to establish continuity within the program and earn the trust of the public by actively involving myself in the community, especially in the local public school music programs.”

Ogg and RHS band director Aric Hageman did their undergraduate work together at the University of Wyoming and he intends to use the rapport with local band directors to enhance the program at Central.

Ogg earned his bachelor’s in music performance from UW in 2005 and his masters from the University of Georgia. He performs in both solo and chamber settings and is versed in both classical and jazz styles. He has performed in master classes for Wynton Marsalis, Stefon Harris, Eugene Rousseau, Claude Delangle and the Zagreb Saxophone Quartet. He is the founder of Ogg Music, LLC.
