Spots available in June whitewater rafting course

January 1, 2012

There are still some spots available in a whitewater rafting course offered by Central Wyoming College June 12-16.

Instructor Darran Wells, Jerrod Ready and Matt Lloyd teach beginner and intermediate students river running/rafting and swift water rescue training during the one credit class. The exact location for the float trip is dependent on seasonal water flow though the river will be in western Wyoming and some overnight camping may occur.

Wells, CWC’s outdoor education professor, said students will experience rafting on rivers, possibly up to Class IV, and will be presented an overview of equipment, proper clothing and safe river techniques for the activity. The class meets on campus June 12 at 8 a.m., where required equipment students must bring is inspected. From there, the group will begin float trips on a variety of rivers in the area. Students return to campus on June 16 by 1 p.m.

For more information and the equipment list, email Wells at darran@cwc.edu or call (307) 349-9205. The course has a fee of $190 and in-state tuition and fees are $92.

Current or former students can register online for PEAC-1297-01. New students should register at the main CWC campus or a CWC outreach center. Students must be 16 and older.
