CWC Gear Up alum selected for national leadership academy

Wendy Martinez, a former participant of Central Wyoming College's GEAR UP program, is one of 30 GEAR UP alumni Leaders selected from across the country to participate in the Gear Up Alumni Leadership Academy (GUALA).

Martinez, a current student at the University of Wyoming, participated in the CWC program while a high school student in Jackson. She is currently a peer mentor for GEAR UP freshmen at UW.

GUALA is a new initiative launched by the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships with support from the national GEAR UP community and funding from the Kresge Foundation. The leadership academy is a 12-month program designed to train and engage GEAR UP alumni in advocacy and leadership and work toward creating positive change in education policy for their younger peers.

 Martinez, who studies political science and plans to enroll in law school, will participate in a GUALA training program in Washington, D.C. June 22-29.
