Energy job preparation subject of June Second Wind program

Students in Central Wyoming College’s Second Wind program have an opportunity to learn jobs skills in the expansive energy field.

The U.S. Department of Labor grant funded-program teaches 18-21-year-old students who had a youthful offense the skills that can lead to gainful employment. Qualified applicants who can dedicate six months can complete a year of school is six months through this scholarship opportunity.

The Foundations of Energy program, which begins in June, introduces students to all types of jobs in the energy sector, including solar, wind, oil, coal and other industries.

In partnership with Fremont County BOCES, successful students are awarded 30 credits, or about half the credits necessary to earn an associate’s degree. The program runs for six months and students meet all day Monday through Friday.

CWC was awarded a $1.2 million grant to provide vocational and life skills to young adults who had been through the juvenile justice system. The goal of the program is to reduce recidivism and provide educational opportunities.

The training is provided free of charge, and students work alongside a success coach to help them work through any barriers they may encounter.
