Jalan Crossland Band in concert at CWC Nov. 15 at 7:30 p.m.

The Jalan Crossland Band performs in concert at Central Wyoming College’s Robert A. Peck Arts Center Theatre at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 15.

Tickets for the concert are $15 for adults and $10 for seniors and students and are available to the CWC Box Office, open weekdays from 3-6 p.m., and at Mammoth Music at 318 E. Main in Riverton.

Widely acclaimed by audiences, critics, and his musical peers as one of the country’s premier acoustic guitarists, Crossland is also a talented vocalist, banjo player, songwriter and showman.

The artist has released six studio albums, and his most recent, Portrait of a Fish, is a solo project with just Jalan, his guitar and banjos. He is a 2013 recipient of the Wyoming Governor’s Art Awards, and in the past, he won the Wyoming Championship Flatpick title. His guitar work has also earned him the National Fingerstyle championship.

Born in San Francisco, his family moved to the tiny ranching town of Ten Sleep and he considers himself a hybrid of two cultures: “half hillbilly and half hillhippy.”

Crossland has been touring both solo and with a band for 20 years. This year alone, Crossland has performed at more than 70 shows. His music can be heard on ESPN.com, and snowboarder Mark Carter chose a Crossland tune for his back country snowboard video that was featured at the XGames in Los Angeles.

The musician recently joined other Wyoming bands to form the WYOmericana Caravan which traversed Wyoming, Colorado, Idaho and Montana to showcase their brand of Wyoming Americana music. A New York Times reporter followed the tour and featured Jalan in a full page story in June of this year.

The concert, co-sponsored by Arts in Action and CWC, is one of several events in November celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the Robert A. Peck Arts Center, which opened in November 1983.
