Percussion ensemble performs, offers workshop

A percussion ensemble that blends ethnic and contemporary sounds is in concert at Central Wyoming College Saturday, Jan. 12.
 
Arts in Action and the CWC Music Department host The Drum Brothers at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center Theatre.
 
The musicians, who are experienced educators as well as performers, are giving workshops to area schools on Friday, Jan. 11 and are also providing a public drumming workshop to be held at 7 p.m. that evening in the Music Rehearsal Hall in CWC’s Arts Center.  Tickets for the workshop are available at the door and are $18 per person, cash only.  This workshop teaches people basic polyrhythms and introduces them to a drumming circle.
 
The ensemble perform on West African djembe and doun-doun drums, udu and frame drums, Australian didgeridoo, flute, guitar, vocals, and hand percussion.
 
Their most recent release “Remember” features some of their favorite live performance material and three cuts with guest artist Abdoul Doumbia from Mali, West Africa.
 
The Drum Brothers concert is the third of five presentations that are produced by Arts in Action at CWC this academic year.  Future presentations include the Missoula Children’s Theatre on January 19 and the University of Wyoming Singing Statesmen and The Happy Jacks on March 10.
 
Tickets for The Drum Brothers are available at the door and are $15 for adults and $10 for students through high school.
