Volleyball probation lifted by NJCAA

The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) announced the Central Wyoming College volleyball program’s probationary status has been removed.

In an August 29, 2013 letter to CWC President Jo Anne McFarland, NJCAA President Joe Tubb, said “the Executive Committee has voted to remove the sanction of probation, effective immediately.”

CWC's volleyball program was placed on probation prior to the 2012 post season, when it was discovered that ineligible student athletes were participating on the team. By lifting the probation, the volleyball team is allowed to participate in post-season tournaments.

Over the past year, CWC has met all conditions of the probation and taken additional measures to better ensure future compliance. CWC has suspended recruiting new international student athletes for a period of two years while improved policies and procedures are developed.

In order to support the Athletic Department and to provide a separation of duties, eligibility documentation and other paperwork for all student athletes is now filed with the CWC Registration and Records Office.

As part of a restructuring of the athletic department, an athletic coordinator position was created. The coordinator is working closely with the athletic director, coaches and other campus departments to assist with operations and compliance.

Executive Vice President Jason Wood was satisfied with the news about the program being released from probation.

"This means a lot for Central Wyoming College," Wood said. "We are now able to move forward. I want to congratulate our staff in athletics for their commitment to abiding by the rules and regulations of the NJCAA.The coaches and staff have worked hard to prepare for this upcoming year and the college looks forward to competing in the postseason and to the possibility of expanding athletic programs at CWC."
