CWC's Spring Showcase is May 8

Central Wyoming College's Community Band, Collegiate Chorale and Handbell Choir perform a Spring Showcase Concert Thursday, May 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert A Peck Arts Center. The concert is free and open to the public.


The community band features four prominent traditional concert band works in "stark contrast" to what the band performed during the fall concert, band director Jason Ogg said.


The band presents John Philip Sousa's "The Thunderer," Gustav Holst's "First Suite in Eb" and the "Chorale and Shaker Dance" by John Zdechlik. Also on the program is Percy Aldridge Grainger's "Australian Up-Country Tune."


Sharon Dalton's Handbell Choir performs "Elation" by Jason W. Krug, and an arrangement by Sandra Eithun of "You Raise Me Up." The bell ringers will also feature "Over the Rainbow," an arrangement by Tammy Waldrop and Keith Richards' arrangement of Green Day's song "Time of Your Life."


The Collegiate Chorale ends the performance with selections by James Taylor, "That Lonesome Road," Billy's Joel's "And So it Goes," a traditional spiritual, and one of conductor Robert Hussa's favorite arrangements of the folk song "How Can I Keep from Singing."


Following the concert there will be a short reception to honor Hussa, who is ending his 34-year career at Central.
