CWC's first major production of the year, George Orwell's "1984" will debut in the Robert A. Peck Arts Center Thursday October 16, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.  Based on one of the most important novels of the 20th century, the play addresses highly relevant issues in today's society:  government surveillance, the Patriot Act, never-ending war, and the rapid development of surveillance technology.  "1984 is frequently referred to as the most influential book of the 20th century," said director Michael Myers.  "The story is incredibly relevant to what is happening in our world today."  The evening will also include the first opening night performance gala, a new tradition for the CWC Theatre Department.  Immediately following the performance the cast will briefly gather in the gallery with the audience to enjoy a toast of sparkling water, music from a professional harpist, and a special gourmet dessert.  Subsequent performances will be on Friday, October 17, at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, October 18 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday October 19, at 2:30 p.m.
