Two new assistant coaches join the CWC team

Central Wyoming College has two new assistants. Shaylee Hance is the new assistant rodeo coach and Tavia Young is the new assistant volleyball coach. Both are past CWC students.

Shaylee Hance

Shaylee Hance is a CWC alumni; she received her associate’s degree in 2013 and transferred to Chadron State College where she received a bachelor’s in business in 2015. While at CWC, Hance was a member of the rodeo team competing in goat tying and breakaway roping. She was a two time College National Finals Rodeo qualifier; placing fourth in goat tying in 2013. She was the Central Rocky Mountain Region champion goat tier in 2013 and was reserve champion in 2014.

In high school, Hance was a four time National High School Finals qualifier in goat tying. She was Montana state champion in goat tying in 2011 and state champion in breakaway roping in 2010.

Hance, originally from Circle, Mont., started Aug. 24 after head rodeo coach Drew Schrock offered her the position for assistant coach.

“I’m excited to have Shaylee as the new assistant coach,” Schrock said. “I was able to coach her during her first two years of college and I saw her work ethic and great attitude which is the foundation of what this program is built on. After she transferred to Chadron State I was able to continue to watch as she was still part of the Rocky Mountain Region. I saw great things happen to her along with the not so great things that happen in life and in the arena; she never gave up and her attitude never faltered. We are all really excited to have her on the coaching staff here at CWC.”

Hance will be helping coach the women’s events and will also travel with the team to all their rodeos.

“I look forward to practice and I’m excited for the team,” Hance said. “Drew is excited and brings a lot of energy to the team. I’m excited to see how the girls do and I want to help them make it to finals and do what I couldn’t.”

Tavia Young

Tavia Young is from Ogden, Utah and attended CWC the past two years. She was on the volleyball team and played outside hitter. While attending school, Young studied the athletic training program, next fall she will pursue her degree in nursing.

As an athlete Young had an overall of 281 kills averaging 2.32 kills per set and had 957 total attacks in the 2014-15 season. In last season she also had 373 digs and 11 assists.

“I’m excited to see the girls improve and be part of the team but from a different aspect,” Young said.

Young accepted the position as assistant coach after head coach Tiffany Stauffenberg contacted her about the position.

“Tavia is fresh out of the volleyball program here at Central so she knows my expectations,” Stauffenberg said. “She was a leader the two years she played here so I knew it would be an easy role for her to take on. Tavia is full of energy and motivation and wants the best for the program; the transition from player to coach was pretty easy for her.”
