The Central Wyoming College Theatre Department’s first major production of the new season is William Shakespeare’s The Tempest.  Auditions will be Tuesday, August 30, at 6:30 p.m., in the Robert A. Peck Art Center Theatre.

There are 13 speaking roles as well as non-speaking roles for six female dancers. Actors will be asked to read from the script while dancers will be given a short movement sequence to perform. No prepared auditions are required. Rehearsals will begin on August 31. Performances dates are October 12-16.

The Tempest is a Romance and generally regarded to be the last play Shakespeare wrote alone. It centers on a magician, Prospero, the rightful duke of Milan who was displaced by his treacherous brother, Antonio, twelve years before. Prospero and his beautiful daughter, Miranda, were exiled to an enchanted island, where their only companions are the spirit, Ariel, and the monster, Caliban. When Antonio and his fellow conspirators happen to sail nearby, Prospero creates a great storm which results in their being shipwrecked on the island. Now Prospero’s enemies are in his power.
