Freshman Bailee Watt was the Rustlers’ top golfer for a second time this season; winning the women’s tournament in Lamar this past week. She wrapped up her final score with a 164 and with only one point more was teammate Sarah Schroefel. Both golfers hit an 85 on day one but on day two Watt finished with 79.

Both Bailee and Sarah played well. They were tied after the first day and both posted good scores on the final day. Our ladies have closed the gap on the first place team but we still have some more to go. ”

Russ Holgate, golf coach

The women’s team is closing the gap on the number one team, Otero College who finished with a total score of 694. Central Wyoming College finished with 751.

The men’s team didn’t have as good of weekend and dropped to fifth place overall. Eastern Wyoming College maintains the number one spot with 588. Standout golfers for CWC were Braxton Schwartzkoph and Kaleb Spiva. Schwartzkoph had rounds of 73 and 77 for a two day total of 150 placing him in sixth. Teammate Spiva shot 77 and 75 for a two day total of 152; putting him in ninth place.

“Both played well this tournament,” Holgate said. “It was hard to keep the ball on the green on some holes, but they found a way to post good scores.”

Overall Holgate said the team played well and have to figure out how to put two rounds together for both the men and the women.

Rustler golf will go to Torrington for the Eastern Wyoming College tournament this week, Sept. 15-16.

“This next tournament should be a test of skills,” Holgate said.
