CWC Student hired at Riverton PD

Bridgette McGinness, a Central Wyoming College student, was hired by the Riverton Police Department on April 26 and started May 30.

The Northern California girl knew she wanted to stay in Wyoming after completing an internship in Riverton, Wyoming. McGinness was studying agri-business at a college in California during the time of her internship and while in Riverton she toured CWC and decided to attend. McGinness changed her major to criminal justice which opened up opportunities for her.

“I’ve always had an interest in criminal justice and the program at CWC is good,” McGinness said.

As a student, McGinness was hired by Campus Safety Director Chuck Carr to work as campus security where her duties included checking buildings and helping with any minor incidents such as hit and runs.

“I talked to Chuck every day and he asked me to work for him,” McGinness said. “He has encouraged me a lot and encourages me to do the things I want in life.”

“It is extremely satisfying to see how much she has matured from the time she first started working for me to the time of her hiring with Riverton PD,” Carr said.

McGinness will go to the Wyoming Law Enforcement Academy in Douglas, Wyoming in August; in the mean time she will most likely do office work and ride-alongs with the Riverton Police Department until she has completed her training.

“I know I’ll learn a lot with Riverton PD and gain experience I wouldn’t get in other parts of Wyoming,” McGinness said.

The CWC criminal justice department said it is proud of its relationship with local law enforcement; it is a sign that CWC is providing the type of education that is immediately valuable to students and law enforcement agencies.
