Rustlers bring home a win last Saturday

The Rustlers brought home two wins last week. With more than a 45 point lead on Dec. 2 against Presentation College the Rustlers won, 104-55.

Six Rustlers shot in double digits. Irshaad Hunte led the way with 19 points with Drew Switzer not far behind with 17 points. Teammates Marcus Nolan and Colter Galante both brought in 13 points each, Alihan Demir brought in 12 points and Nick Brannon with 10.

During the contest the Rustlers shot 76.5 percent in free throws, 51.9 percent in field goals and 46.7 percent in 3-pointers. Presentation played 50 percent for free throws but played below 40 percent in field goals and 3-pointers. The Rustlers commanded the boards bringing down 56 rebounds to Presentation’s 18.

Today was a good win for us. We had the opportunity to rest some guys that normally play heavy minutes but maybe more importantly we had the chance to play some guys in longer stretches than they're used to. That experience gained can really help in the long run. ”

The Rustlers brought in another win last Saturday against Dawson Community College Buccaneers, 95-56. The men’s basketball team had an 18 point lead in the first half, 44-26 and maintained that lead in the second half, 95-56.

Several Rustlers brought in double digits for the team with Demir leading the way with 17 points. Teammate Chris Quayle brought in 14 points followed by Hunte with 13 and Brannon and Ronnie Barfield Jr. both bringing in 11 points.

The Rustlers shot 69 percent from the line and 35 percent for 3-pointers. The Buccaneer’s lagged in 3-pointers, only playing 11.8 percent but kept even with the Rustlers from the line with 69.2 percent.

The Rustlers brought down 55 rebounds to Dawson’s 21.

"We are competing at a high level right now,” Coach Nelson said. “The challenge now will be to maintain this day in and day out. If we do that then we should continue to improve and have a successful season."

The Rustlers will play Salt Lake Community College Dec. 13. The team will return to home court Jan. 4. against Eastern Wyoming College.
