The lady Rustlers proved to have another great weekend as sophomore Sarah Schroefel won the Eastern Wyoming College Golf Tournament this past week in Torrington, Wyoming.

Schroefel took the lead with a two day total of 157. She finished day one with 78 strokes and came back in day two with only one more stroke, 79.

Sarah played really well posting two scores in the 70’s. She has her first individual title this year. She is a hard worker on the practice range and putting greens. The work is paying off for her. ”

Russ Holgate, golf coach

Bailee Watt, who has been the Rustlers standout golfer finished this tournament in fourth place. Her first day finish was 90 strokes but she came back in day two improving to 80 strokes.

The women’s team finished in second place with 725 points while Otero Junior College earned first place with 690 points.

It’s been a tough start in the golf season for the men’s team but hard work finally paid off as the team finished in third place at the Eastern Wyoming College tournament.

Freshman Jarrett Barr was the standout for the men’s team; putting two good rounds together on a tough course. On day one his total was 77 but improved on day two with 73 strokes. Barr finished the tournament tying for fourth place with a two day total of 150.

“This course can get you in trouble if you’re not hitting the ball well,” Holgate said. “Jarrett plays smart and is pretty consistent in his game. We will see him in the top ten more often than not.”

Braxton Schwartzkoph was not far behind Barr and finished his two day total with 152 strokes tying for fifth place. Like most of the golfers, Schwartzkoph improved on day two with 75 strokes; two strokes less than his day one total. Also placing in the top ten was Kaleb Spiva. His first day total was 80 strokes and 76 on day two finishing the tournament with a total of 156 and placing him in seventh place.

The men’s team finished with 616 points. Finishing the tournament in first place was Eastern Wyoming College with 593 points and Otero Junior College in second with 610 points.

Rustler golf will go to McCook, Nebraska for the McCook Community College tournament this week, Sept. 29-30.
