After nominated for Student of the Week Eric Bennett, sophomore from Albuquerque, New Mexico, was selected to be Student of the Year. Bennett was one of 32 other CWC students who were nominated for the Student of the Week, a weekly story the local newspapers run for each school in Fremont County. Students are nominated by faculty and staff. Bennett was nominated by Debbie Graham, administrative assistant for admission and recruitment.

Eric always has a smile on his face and represents CWC extremely well as an ambassador. I have enjoyed getting to know him through his services as a student ambassador this past year. ”

Bennett was nominated not only for his academic achievements but also by his numerous contributions that he does for CWC and the community. Bennett helps with activities on campus and in the community through his work as an ambassador. He also helps in the tutoring lab, is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and a volunteer coordinator for Eagle Staff Running Association.

Bennett works full time for the Northern Arapaho in a youth program called Generation 8, which helps youth learn about unity and helps them become leaders. His previous employment at Boys and Girl Club helped Bennett realize he loved to work with children.

“This is the whole reason I chose social science,” Bennett said. “I can teach and help children.”

Now in his sophomore year at CWC, Bennett has one semester left to complete an associate’s degree in social science and his goals include earning a master’s degree. He will start applying for four year colleges and universities this summer and will graduate in December.

Bennett will receive a scholarship from The Ranger newspaper.
