Cosmetology courses are now offered at Central Wyoming College. After the CWC Board of Trustees approval on Sept. 20 a curriculum was put in place to offer the associate of applied science degree.

The program officially admitted the first group of students in October. Now nearing the start of spring semester, students can register for courses for the cosmetology program at CWC.

With the new program, students will be able to apply for student loans, federal financial aid, housing and scholarship funding to help offset the costs of the programs. The courses will be offered year-round allowing students to complete the programs at a quicker pace.

Our goal in offering this program is to offer a high quality educational experience that prepares professionals to serve within the industry with a high level of success. ”

Lynne McAuliffe, dean of business, technical, health and safety

The college is currently remodeling the Professional Technical building for a new salon floor for training students. The remodel is set to be completed Jan. 16, the start date of spring semester.

The new area will have spaces for students learning to be a nail technician, hair technician and esthetician.

“An important part of the learning process allows advanced students to train by serving the public for cosmetology services,” McAuliffe said. CWC will begin providing those services to the public this spring.

The association of applied science degree in cosmetology will include: certificate in hair technician, certificate in nail technician, certificate in esthetician and a certificate in cosmetology instruction, for those who would like to teach the courses.

"In exploring this opportunity for our students, I was very pleased to find the job outlook forecasted for significant growth and the wage data for Wyoming higher than the national average," McAuliffe said.
