Rebekah Hutchison was bringing awareness of clean water in India with the nonprofit humanitarian organization, Youth with a Mission when she realized she had a passion for helping others. She worked in hospitals, orphanages and in girl’s homes. She also helped to stop human trafficking, did street cleanup and helped rebuild homes that were damaged after an earthquake in the Himalayas.

“It helped me understand a little more about what I wanted to do and gave me a global perspective,” Hutchison said. “It helped me understand how I could help.” ”

This sparked Hutchison to study communication and international studies in hopes to study the subjects abroad. While in India she decided to apply to CWC and started her college career last fall. Now in her last year at CWC, Hutchison will graduate in May with a communication degree.

A big supporter and reason Hutchison decided to attend CWC was Professor Maygen Cassity.

“She helped me get settled and is really passionate about what she does,” Hutchison said. “It translates in the classroom really well. It’s very effective. She genuinely cares and she’s very encouraging.”

Hutchison wants to go back and do similar work that she did with YWAM to be a voice for the voiceless and bring awareness to situations. After she graduates in May she plans to continue her education to earn a bachelor’s degree.

“I really enjoy learning,” she said. Hutchinson also plans to do more traveling and during her travels, she would like to do a nine month biblical studies program in Australia.

She was nominated by Cassity, who said, “Rebekah is one of the most impressive students whom I have had the pleasure of teaching. Her genuine passion for education and experience is a breath of fresh air. The manner in which she processes and analyzes information is not only impressive, but it always leads to great discussion. Rebekah is a joy in and out of the classroom, and I am incredibly honored to be a part of her educational story here at CWC.”

Hutchison is a student ambassador and is on the cross country team.
