Portrait of Jacen Makeshine

Jacen Makeshine is from Ethete, Wyoming and is studying education and science.

“Those are degrees that I can fall back on,” Makeshine said. “I like to work with children but I want to be a physical therapist, physical trainer, a P.E. teacher or an English teacher.”

Makeshine is a substitute teacher and also helps at the Wind River Children’s Home in Riverton. He has been a co-chair for Unity Youth Council and a coordinator for Eagle’s Staff Runners Association.

He attributes his hard work and educational goals to his parents who graduated from CWC.

They were working full time and going to school full time and they inspired me to pursue my degree. ”

Makeshine is a member of the CWC multicultural club and the united tribes club. In his free time, he enjoys being active by playing frisbee, doing cross fit and lifting weights. He also enjoys spending time with his nieces and nephews.

Makeshine was nominated by Paula Hartbank, education and transfer coach from Student Support Services.

“Jacen is a TRIO student who is returning to college after several years,” Hartbank said. “Jacen has a substitute teaching license but is looking to further his studies in science and education. He works part-time while maintaining a full-time class load. Jacen treats his classes as a job. When he's not in class, he's in the Student Success Center working on his homework.”
