Rustlers Return Home to win fifth straight

The Rustlers began a four game home stand yesterday against Eastern Wyoming College, earning a convincing 99-74 victory. For the second straight outing, the Rustlers never trailed in the ball game.

“I was really happy with our performance tonight,” said Jack Nelson, head coach. “Coming back from the break and having over two weeks off is always a little nerve wracking for a coach, but our guys did a great job of shaking off the rust and getting back to how we play.”

The game saw four Rustlers reach double figures led by Ankara, Turkey native, Alihan Demir, who posted an impressive stat line of 28 points, eight rebounds and three assists while shooting 13 of 16 from the field.

Toronto product Irshaad Hunte poured in an additional 20 points, while Riverton’s Chris Quayle contributed 15. Forward Lake Del Mar from Sacramento, California also had a season-high 11 points off the bench. 

“Lake has continued to work and show improvement on a daily basis,” Nelson said. “He is far from a finished product but his hard work to show through and he is finding ways to help us win games.”

The Rustlers held a 39-30 edge on the glass and shot 59 percent from the field, holding the Lancers to just 40 percent. The Rustlers will return to action at home this Saturday, Jan. 7 at 5:30pm against Impact Academy for their last nonconference game before they begin Region IX play.
