CWC hosts Women in Science Day

Students from Fremont County and the surrounding area spent Tuesday, May 17 at Central Wyoming College learning about Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).
The Women in Science conferences are designed to give youth the opportunity to do hands-on, laboratory and in field activities that are geared towards STEM.
"The Women-Men in Science planning committee strives to renew the loss of interest in STEM in youth due primarily to the disturbing results of an international science and mathematics study," said Peggy Peterson, who works for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Weather Service and is part of the planning committee. The study indicated that “children in the United States were among the leaders in the 4th grade assessment, but by high school graduation, they were almost last.”
Through these conferences, students from 7-12th grades learn about the opportunities of rewarding, well-paying careers in these fields. Attendees also have opportunities to create personal connections with professional scientists, doctors, veterinarians, technicians, engineers, analysts, biologists, therapists, chemists and mathematicians; to name a few.
